Ubisoft Reveals Skull and Bones Year 2 Plans: Land Combat Added This Fall

by Victoria May 14,2025

Ubisoft is setting sail with ambitious plans to make Skull and Bones Year 2 the most thrilling chapter yet for this pirate multiplayer game. The roadmap is packed with exciting additions, including new modes, ships, a fearsome Kraken, and a long-awaited feature: land combat.

During a special Year 2 showcase that premiered yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled a treasure trove of upcoming content. The spotlight shone brightest on Season 3: Guts and Glory, which will finally introduce the land combat players have been clamoring for since the game's launch last February.

In Season 3 this fall, players will step onto land to engage in swordfights and use firearms, expanding the action beyond the sea. This feature is part of the Rogue Warlord additions, where players will explore sandy beaches and damp caves to rescue skilled Officers. A teaser video offered a glimpse of what's to come, though we'll need to wait until later this year to see it in action.

While land combat is the headline addition for Skull and Bones Year 2, Ubisoft's presentation revealed a wealth of other content to keep players engaged throughout 2025. Season 1, Ascent into Chaos, launches today, April 15, with features like item ascension, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Season 2: Oaths of War, arriving in summer 2025, will introduce Megaforts and the massive Frigate large ships. Season 4: Eye of the Beast, slated for this winter, promises the introduction of the Kraken, Hunter’s Guild, and the Corvette large ship.

If these updates have piqued your interest, you're in luck. Skull and Bones is hosting a free weekend from April 17 – 21, giving players a chance to dive into the pirate PvP action. Additionally, the game will be available at a discounted price during this period, though the exact discount remains under wraps.

Skull and Bones launched on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, earning a solid 7/10 in our review. While Ubisoft has kept official sales figures close to the chest, they did mention achieving "record player engagement" shortly after launch. Notably, the release of Skull and Bones also sparked a 200% surge in players for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
