Rogue Loops: A Hades-Inspired Roguelike Dungeon Crawler

The upcoming indie game, Rogue Loops, is generating excitement with its clear inspiration from the popular title, Hades. This roguelike dungeon crawler boasts a replayable dungeon, randomly generated loot and upgrades, and a unique twist on the genre's established formula.

While a firm release date remains unannounced, Rogue Loops is slated for a PC release in early 2025. However, players can experience a taste of the action now with a free demo available on Steam.

The roguelike genre's recent surge in popularity has seen numerous developers create their own versions, ranging from action shooters like Returnal to traditional dungeon crawlers such as Hades and its currently-in-early-access sequel. Rogue Loops draws heavily from the latter, offering a top-down perspective and a repeating dungeon filled with randomized loot and ability upgrades.

Adding a distinctive element to its Hades-inspired gameplay (evident in its Steam trailer and demo), Rogue Loops introduces a mechanic where ability upgrades come with significant drawbacks, potentially altering gameplay for the entire run. This is reminiscent of Hades' Chaos Gates, but with potentially more lasting and varied consequences.

The narrative centers around a family trapped in a deadly time loop. Players must battle through five-floor dungeons, each with unique enemies and bosses. As is typical of roguelikes, each playthrough unlocks procedurally generated upgrades, enabling players to craft diverse builds using both buffs and debuffs.

Although a precise release date is yet to be confirmed, the Steam page indicates a Q1 2025 launch. Until then, a free demo offering access to the first floor is available. Fans eager for more roguelike action can also explore titles like Dead Cells and Hades 2 in the meantime.
