WB Reportedly Cancels Unannounced Paid DLC for Hogwarts Legacy

by Nora May 13,2025

According to a recent Bloomberg report, Warner Bros. has canceled an unannounced paid DLC for the popular game Hogwarts Legacy. The planned story expansion was set to launch this year, coinciding with the release of a "Definitive Edition" of the game. However, Bloomberg's sources indicate that Warner Bros. decided to pull the plug on the DLC this week, citing concerns that "the amount of content was not substantial enough to justify the price being considered." When approached for comment, Warner Bros. declined to provide any statement to Bloomberg.

This cancellation comes amidst a broader restructuring of Warner Bros.' gaming division, prompted by ongoing financial challenges. Earlier in the year, Warner Bros. also canceled a planned Wonder Woman game, leading to the closure of Monolith Productions, the studio behind it. Other affected studios include WB San Diego and the MultiVersus developer, Player First Games. Additionally, layoffs occurred at Rocksteady as recently as last September.

Despite these setbacks, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of Hogwarts Legacy and the Harry Potter franchise as key assets. The company has publicly stated that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is "one of the biggest priorities," as it shifts its focus to fewer, but larger, franchise projects. The original game has achieved remarkable success, selling over 30 million copies.
