Voice actor Doug Cockle confirms Geralt of Rivia's return in The Witcher 4, but clarifies that the iconic Witcher won't be the protagonist this time. While Geralt will feature, the narrative focus shifts to new characters.

Speculation centers around two key possibilities. A Cat School medallion, featured in a previous Unreal Engine 5 teaser, hints at a surviving member of that order, given their history of vengeance. Alternatively, Geralt's adopted daughter, Ciri, is a strong contender, supported by her possession of a Cat medallion in the books and the game's subtle use of the medallion when players control her. Ciri's role could be similar to Vesemir's in previous games, or Geralt's presence might be limited to flashbacks or cameos.

The Witcher 4's Development: A Large-Scale Undertaking

Game director Sebastian Kalemba aims to balance attracting new players with satisfying long-time fans. The Witcher 4, codenamed Polaris, began development in 2023, with over 400 developers currently working on the project, making it CD Projekt Red's largest undertaking. However, CEO Adam Kiciński previously suggested a release date at least three years out, due to the game's ambitious scope and the development of new Unreal Engine 5 technology.
