The Witcher 4: everything we know so far

The Witcher saga continues! Nearly a decade after the critically acclaimed Witcher 3 captivated gamers, CD Projekt Red has unveiled the first trailer for The Witcher 4, starring Ciri as the protagonist.

Ciri, Geralt's adopted daughter, steps into the spotlight as the older generation's adventures conclude. The teaser showcases Ciri intervening in a village's disturbing ritualistic sacrifice, revealing a complex situation far beyond initial appearances.

While a release date remains unannounced, considering the development timelines of Witcher 3 (3.5-4 years) and Cyberpunk 2077, a 3-4 year timeframe for Witcher 4 seems plausible, given the early stage of production.

Platform specifics are yet to be revealed, but given the anticipated release window, a current-generation console focus is likely. PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC releases are anticipated, with a Switch port seeming less probable this time, though a potential Switch 2 release remains a possibility.

Though gameplay details are scarce, the CGI trailer hints at familiar elements like potions, combat phrases, and magical Signs. A new addition might be Ciri's chain, used for both monster capture and magical manipulation.

Voice actor Doug Cockle has confirmed Geralt's presence in the game, albeit in a supporting role, fueling speculation of a mentor-like figure. The trailer includes Geralt's voice, further supporting this theory.
