WoW Delays Plunderstorm Launch

Summary

  • The Plunderstorm event in World of Warcraft (WoW) has been delayed due to unexpected issues.
  • No new estimated launch time has been revealed yet.
  • Players can engage in other activities in WoW while waiting for Plunderstorm.

World of Warcraft has postponed the launch of the much-anticipated second Plunderstorm event to address some unforeseen challenges. Although the team at Blizzard Entertainment still aims to launch Plunderstorm before the end of January 14, fans will need to wait a bit longer to dive back into the thrilling pirate-themed battle royale mode.

Introduced during the Dragonflight expansion in 2024, Plunderstorm quickly became a fan favorite. The event was set to return on January 14, 2025, promising both classic and fresh rewards for WoW players to claim.

Unfortunately, technical difficulties have pushed back the event's rollout. The initial maintenance window, planned for six hours, was extended to eight, with servers expected to be back online by 3 PM PST. However, a forum post from WoW community manager Kaivax during the maintenance extension announced that "unexpected issues" have caused further delays. While the team is working hard to have Plunderstorm up and running before the day is out, no specific new launch time has been provided.

When is Plunderstorm Live in World of Warcraft?

  • Before the end of January 14, once the "unexpected issues" are resolved.

In the meantime, WoW's regular servers are back online, allowing players to continue their adventures. Those eagerly awaiting Plunderstorm can take the opportunity to complete their Siren Isle weeklies, dive into the second week of the Turbulent Timeways event, or explore other content in The War Within.

The second iteration of Plunderstorm introduces new elements like the Plunderstore and an in-game event interface accessible while logged in. It's speculated that these additions might be the source of the current issues, but Blizzard is diligently working to resolve them so fans can return to plundering soon.

Despite the delay, the new Plunderstorm Twitch Drops remain available. By watching four hours of any Twitch streamer in the World of Warcraft category before February 4 at 10 AM PST, players can earn the Coward’s Azure Target back transmog. Importantly, the streamer doesn't need to be playing Plunderstorm for viewers to earn progress toward the Drop, giving fans a way to engage with the community and earn rewards while waiting for the game mode to go live.
