Ygwulf's Fate in Avowed: Kill or Spare?

Ygwulf

In the opening minutes of *Avowed*'s main quest, the Envoy faces a tragic assassination. After unraveling the mystery behind their own murder with the help of Kai and Marius in Paradis, you'll identify your killer as Ygwulf, a member of the Paradisan Rebels fiercely opposing Aedyr's presence in the region. As the Emperor's Envoy, you become a prime target for these rebels.

Your quest leads you to Ygwulf's underground hideout, where you'll need to overcome numerous enemies and navigate challenging platforming sections. Make sure to stock up on Health Potions and equip your best gear for this encounter. As you progress, you may come across documents that shed light on Ygwulf's true intentions and his growing remorse. Initially driven by what he believed were divine visions, Ygwulf's doubts and regrets become clear, whether you find these documents or hear it directly from him during your confrontation. He expresses his remorse yet remains open to facing the consequences of his actions.

What Happens If You Spare Ygwulf or He Turns Himself In?

Choosing to have Ygwulf turn himself in to the Inquisitor of the Steel Garrote is the least favorable option. This decision leads him to face the harsh justice of Inquisitor Lödwyn, which implies a torturous end. Moreover, turning him in yields fewer rewards compared to sparing him or defeating him in battle.

If you decide to spare Ygwulf, he will offer you 625 Copper Skeyt and some Adra as a token of gratitude for your mercy. While this isn't a substantial amount, it's still a helpful boost. However, sparing him won't change his ultimate fate, as he will meet his demise later in the story.

Why You Should Kill Ygwulf in Avowed

Given that Ygwulf's fate is sealed regardless of your choice, opting to attack him in dialogue and engage in a boss fight is the most beneficial decision. This combat serves as excellent practice for future encounters in *Avowed* and rewards you with the best loot among the options. Upon defeating Ygwulf, you can loot his body for currency, Adra, and the unique Blackwing armor set. This armor not only boasts a stylish appearance but also enhances stealth capabilities, providing a +30% damage boost when attacking from stealth and a 25% movement speed increase when crouching, aiding in sneaking past enemies.

Does Ygwulf’s Fate Affect the Story in Avowed? SPOILER WARNING

Despite encountering Ygwulf early in the game, his fate subtly influences the ending of *Avowed*. After the final gameplay section, you'll witness artwork and narration that reflect the impact of your decisions on the world of Eora within the Living Lands. Regardless of your efforts to bring peace and unity to the region, Ygwulf's death will always occur, intensifying the Paradisan Rebellion and ensuring their continued violent opposition to your efforts post-credits.
