Yuji Horii Teases Gradual Reveal of Dragon Quest 12 Details
Dragon Quest 12 remains in active development, with series creator Yuji Horii reassuring fans that information about the game will be released gradually. During a livestream with his radio show group KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku, Horii mentioned that the team at Square Enix is diligently working on the project. This marks the first update on Dragon Quest 12 since May 2024, when Horii acknowledged the passing of the series' character designer Akira Toriyama and composer Koichi Sugiyama. Additionally, it was noted that the series' lead producer Yu Miyake had stepped down to head Square Enix's mobile game division.
Concerns about the game's cancellation had surfaced among fans due to restructuring at Square Enix and a lack of recent updates. However, Horii's recent comments provide reassurance that Dragon Quest 12 is still in the works.
Dragon Quest 12 was initially announced during the series' 35th anniversary celebration and is set to be the first mainline entry since Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age, released in 2017. In other news, Square Enix reported that the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake has exceeded sales expectations, having sold 2 million copies.
