DC Comics to Relaunch Batman With New #1 Issue and New Costume

DC's 2025 Lineup: A Fresh Look at Batman, Superman, and Krypto

2025 promises a significant revamp for DC's comic book lineup, starting with a major relaunch of their flagship Batman title. Following Chip Zdarsky's conclusion on Batman #157, Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee's Hush 2 storyline will debut in March. This sets the stage for a brand-new Batman #1, featuring a fresh creative team and a redesigned costume.

New Batman Costume

Matt Fraction (Uncanny X-Men, The Invincible Iron Man) will helm the writing duties, collaborating with returning artist Jorge Jimenez. Jimenez and Fraction have crafted a new Batsuit, inspired by vintage designs, swapping the classic black and gray for a blue and gray aesthetic, along with a redesigned Batmobile. Fraction stated, “Jorge and I have a very superhero-forward kind of take on Batman. We’ve got a new Batmobile, we’ve got a new costume, we’ve got new characters, and we’ve got a lot of old ones too—good and bad; all the stuff that makes Batman the coolest character in comics. We want to celebrate it all.” Batman #1 is slated for a September 2025 release.

The "Summer of Superman" continues with several exciting developments. Supergirl is getting a fresh start with a new series and costume, designed by Stanley "Artgerm" Lau. Sophie Campbell (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) will write and illustrate the new book, returning Kara Zor-El to Midvale. Campbell commented, “My main touchstones to Kara Zor-El were the stories and the wild costumes from the 70’s, the 1984 Supergirl movie, and The CW show, which I was a huge fan of.” Supergirl #1 arrives May 14th.

Action Comics will also see a new creative team, with Mark Waid (Justice League Unlimited) writing and Skylar Patridge (Resonant) providing art. This iteration will focus on Clark Kent's teenage years in Smallville, exploring his early experiences with his powers as Superboy. Waid explains, "I start the book with Clark as a 15-year-old boy, learning to be a superhero for the first time.” This arc begins with Action Comics #1087 in June.

Finally, Krypto, Superman's canine companion, will star in his own five-issue miniseries, Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton, as part of the DC All In initiative. Written by Ryan North (Fantastic Four) and illustrated by Mike Norton (Revival), this series will delve into a more detailed origin story for Krypto. North notes, "The chance to really define Krypto—to show what a little lost dog would go through if he landed all alone on a strange alien world named Earth—was really enticing." Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton #1 launches June 18th.

Play News from ComicsPro also revealed Marvel's summer relaunch of Captain America, written by Zdarsky and illustrated by Valerio Schiti.
