Pokémon GO consistently delivers engaging monthly events, including Max Mondays, Community Days, and the weekly Spotlight Hours, each featuring a specific Pokémon with a chance to snag a Shiny. Here's the lowdown on the upcoming event.

Voltorb & Hisuian Voltorb Spotlight Hour

This week's Spotlight Hour, featuring Voltorb and Hisuian Voltorb, runs from 6 PM to 7 PM Local Time on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. Prepare for a double dose of Pokémon hunting for Shiny versions of both! Both Pokémon offer significant combat advantages, particularly when extra damage is needed.

Given the two Pokémon featured, stock up on Poké Balls, Berries, and Incense. You'll be catching twice the usual number! These items boost your chances of catching Shinies and facilitating evolution. Also, ensure you have ample storage space – you'll be catching a lot!

Voltorb (#100 in the Pokédex), a Kanto region Pokémon, is tradeable and transferable to Pokémon Home. Catching one yields 3 Candies and 100 Stardust. It's a two-stage evolution, evolving into Electrode with 50 Candies. With a max CP of 1141, 109 Attack, and 111 Defense, it packs a punch.

As an Electric-type Pokémon, Voltorb takes increased damage from Ground-type attacks (160% Damage) and reduced damage from Electric, Flying, and Steel types (63% Damage). The optimal moveset is Spark (Electric) and Discharge (Electric), delivering 5.81 DPS and 40.62 TDO. Rainy weather boosts its attack power. A blue Shiny variant exists.

Hisuian Voltorb, also #100, is another Kanto region Pokémon, also tradeable and transferable to Pokémon Home. Catching one awards 3 Candies and 100 Stardust, evolving into Hisuian Electrode with 50 Candies. It shares Voltorb's 1141 max CP, 111 Defense, and 109 Attack, and is also Electric-type.

The key difference lies in its type matchups. Hisuian Voltorb takes increased damage from Bug, Fire, Ice, and Poison types (160% Damage), and reduced damage from Grass, Steel, and Water types (63%), and other Electric types (39%). Its best moveset is Tackle (Normal) and Thunderbolt (Electric), providing 5.39 DPS and 37.60 TDO. Partly Cloudy and Rainy weather enhance its damage output. Its Shiny version features a black body instead of orange.
