Upcoming Capcom Game Revivals Revealed
Capcom's Revival of Classic IPs Continues: Okami and Onimusha Lead the Charge

Capcom has confirmed its ongoing commitment to revitalizing its classic intellectual properties (IPs), with the Okami and Onimusha franchises spearheading this initiative. This article delves into Capcom's plans and speculates on which dormant series might be next in line for a comeback.
Okami and Onimusha: Leading the Revival

In a December 13th press release announcing new installments in the Onimusha and Okami series, Capcom explicitly stated its intention to continue resurrecting past IPs to deliver high-quality gaming experiences. The new Onimusha title, set in Edo-period Kyoto, is slated for a 2026 release. A new Okami sequel is also in development, with the original game's director and development team involved, though a release date remains undisclosed.

Capcom emphasized its strategy of reactivating underutilized IPs, leveraging its extensive content library to generate consistently high-quality, efficient titles. This commitment extends beyond Okami and Onimusha, with Monster Hunter Wilds and Capcom Fighting Collection 2 both scheduled for 2025 release. This doesn't signal a halt to new IP development, however, as evidenced by recent releases like Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess and Exoprimal.
Capcom's "Super Elections": A Glimpse into the Future?

Capcom's February 2024 "Super Elections," where fans voted for their most desired character appearances and sequels, offer valuable insight into potential future projects. The results highlighted strong demand for sequels and remakes of franchises including Dino Crisis, Darkstalkers, Onimusha, and Breath of Fire.
Dino Crisis and Darkstalkers, with their last installments released in 1997 and 2003 respectively, have been largely dormant for years. Similarly, Breath of Fire 6, an online RPG, closed in 2017 after a short lifespan. The significant fan interest in these franchises during the "Super Elections," along with the renewed focus on Onimusha and Okami, suggests that these long-dormant IPs are prime candidates for future revivals or remasters.
While Capcom remains discreet about its future plans, the "Super Elections" provide a compelling indication of which dormant IPs might be next to receive the spotlight, offering hope for the return of beloved gaming classics.
