Matt Reeves Confirms The Batman 2 Script Done

by Aurora Dec 24,2025

Director Matt Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin have completed the script for The Batman Part 2.

The long-awaited update for Robert Pattinson's return as the Dark Knight came through a cryptic photo Reeves posted on X/Twitter. While appearing to be a simple black-and-white image of the director with Tomlin, eagle-eyed fans noticed a script featuring the iconic Bat-logo on the table.

While Reeves didn't explicitly confirm completion, Variety verified the script is finished. The news follows DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn telling Entertainment Weekly last week that he expected to receive the sequel's script before July.

"The project is in great shape," Gunn said. "Matt's passionate about this. We're in regular contact. The enthusiasm is mutual - we're just waiting to read the completed draft."

The 2022 The Batman reinvented Gotham City with a neo-noir aesthetic, earning critical acclaim (including our perfect score) and commercial success. The film grossed $772 million worldwide according to Box Office Mojo, establishing a beloved new take on the Caped Crusader.

Audience anticipation has remained high despite delays. The Penguin Max series starring Colin Farrell provided interim storytelling, but fans eagerly await the core narrative continuation.

Play Gunn has consistently supported Reeves' creative process: "Respect the creative timeline – great work can't be rushed. Fans loved Matt's vision precisely because he crafts stories his way."

After multiple production shifts, The Batman Part 2 is now scheduled for October 1, 2027. In related Batman news, the DCU's The Brave and the Bold will feature a new actor as Bruce Wayne, keeping Pattinson's iteration separate. With dual Batman franchises developing simultaneously, Gunn has called the character "the most complex element in DC's current slate."
