The upcoming Narnia reboot, helmed by Barbie director Greta Gerwig, continues to expand its star-studded cast with the addition of Academy Award nominee Carey Mulligan.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mulligan joins previously announced cast members including Daniel Craig (known for his James Bond portrayal), Emma Mackey of Sex Education fame, and legendary actress Meryl Streep.

Gerwig will write and direct this fresh interpretation of C.S. Lewis' beloved fantasy series, marking her return to both roles following Barbie's success.

The film will adapt The Magician's Nephew, the chronological beginning of Narnia's story that predates the iconic events of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Mulligan, recognized with nominations across major awards including Oscars and Golden Globes, is reportedly cast as Mabel Kirke - mother to protagonist Digory.

Craig takes on the titular magician role (Digory's uncle), while Mackey portrays a younger incarnation of the White Witch. Streep lends her voice to Aslan, the divine lion who governs Narnia.

This marks Hollywood's latest attempt to bring Lewis' fantasy world to cinemas, following the 2005-2010 trilogy that adapted the first three Narnia novels with Tilda Swinton as the White Witch and Liam Neeson voicing Aslan.

Gerwig's project follows her phenomenal success with Barbie, which earned eight Oscar nominations including Best Picture, ultimately winning for Best Original Song.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew is scheduled for theatrical release in 2026.
