Dead by Daylight Will Make Highly Requested Change to The Nightmare
Dead by Daylight's The Nightmare Receives a Major Gameplay Overhaul
Freddy Krueger, or The Nightmare, is getting a significant rework in an upcoming Dead by Daylight patch. This update addresses long-standing player concerns regarding his underpowered status, aiming to make him a more competitive and thematically accurate Killer.
The core change introduces the ability to seamlessly switch between Dream Snares and Dream Pallets, granting The Nightmare greater tactical flexibility. Both powers have been significantly enhanced. Dream Snares now travel at 12 m/s, traversing walls and stairs (but not ledges), and their effects vary depending on whether a Survivor is asleep or awake. Awake Survivors will have their sleep meter increased, while asleep Survivors will be hindered. Dream Pallets, meanwhile, can be triggered to explode, inflicting damage and further manipulating the sleep meter based on the Survivor's state.
Further enhancing The Nightmare's mobility, the rework allows teleportation to any generator in the Dream World, including completed, blocked, and endgame generators. Additionally, teleporting to a healing Survivor will place The Nightmare within 12 meters, revealing nearby Survivors with Killer Instinct and adding to their sleep timer.
Beyond the core power adjustments, several Add-Ons are being tweaked to promote creative Killer builds. However, The Nightmare's perks remain unchanged, potentially to preserve the character's original design intent.
Key Changes Summarized:
- Swappable Powers: Freely switch between Dream Snares and Dream Pallets.
- Enhanced Dream Snares: 12 m/s speed, wall and stair traversal, unique effects for sleeping and awake Survivors.
- Explosive Dream Pallets: Triggerable explosions with varying effects based on Survivor's sleep state.
- Improved Teleportation: Teleport to any generator, with targeted teleportation to healing Survivors revealing nearby Survivors.
- Teleport Cooldown Reduction: Reduced from 45 to 30 seconds, and no longer cancellable.
- Killer Instinct Enhancement: Healing Survivors in the Dream World are revealed via Killer Instinct.
- Alarm Clock Changes: Sleeping Survivors can use any Alarm Clock to wake up, but each clock enters a 45-second cooldown afterward.
While the exact release date is unannounced, these changes are currently implemented in the Public Test Build (PTB), suggesting an imminent arrival in the live game. This substantial rework promises to revitalize The Nightmare, making him a more formidable and engaging Killer for players.
