Elden Ring Nightreign Dataminers Say They've Uncovered an Entirely New, Ultra-Hard Game Mode

by Harper Mar 14,2026

Love Elden Ring Nightreign, but growing tired of the same three-night boss cycle and repetitive Everdark sovereigns? Don’t worry, Nightfarer—a new, extra-challenging game mode may be coming that’ll shake up Nightreign’s usual gameplay.

This new mode, called Deep of Night, was discovered and shared by dataminers and seems to function as an “endless” mode with skill-based matchmaking. Unlike standard Nightreign, you won’t be able to pick your boss—it’ll be assigned randomly. With every win, your “Depth” rating rises, increasing the challenge, and Nightreign will typically match you with players of similar Depth, as long as wait times stay reasonable.

The datamine suggests there will be five Depths, each with 999 possible ratings, and defeating bosses will raise your Depth. Losing runs will cause your Depth to drop, but once you reach Depth 2, you can never return to Depth 1. It’s unclear whether this rule applies to all Depth levels or if it’s meant to prevent experienced players from being stuck with newcomers.

This likely makes them tougher—I definitely wouldn’t want to get close. New weapon effects are also introduced, along with stronger weapons that offer improved buffs but come with trade-offs. Players will gain access to three additional relic slots on top of the original three, with these new slots usable only in Deep of Night. Like the new weapons, these relics were also datamined, featuring stronger effects alongside occasional balancing drawbacks.

Overall, this new mode sounds like a fresh twist on Nightreign that could keep the experience engaging for longer. While Nightreign still has an active community, interest has waned since launch, especially as the Everdark boss rotation has become more repetitive. FromSoftware has just announced the next Everdark boss, Caligo, set to arrive tomorrow evening.

We gave Elden Ring Nightreign a 7/10 at launch, with our reviewer noting, "when Elden Ring Nightreign is played exactly as it was designed to be played, it’s one of the finest examples of a three-player co-op game around – but that's harder to do than it should be, and playing solo is poorly balanced." The game has since added a duos mode and has sold five million copies as of July.
