Elden Ring Day-One Patch Brings Key Changes

by Harper Nov 11,2025

Elden Ring Nightreign launches imminently, and publisher Bandai Namco has detailed its day-one update, which implements a number of significant game adjustments.

Patch 1.01 is now available, according to Bandai Namco, with the multiplayer-focused title scheduled to become accessible on May 29th or May 30th depending on your region. Refer to the global Elden Ring Nightreign release schedule for specific timing.

The developer stated this patch enhances the "handling" of player characters, makes balance tweaks, refines text, includes new character storylines, and expands the musical score. It also resolves several technical issues.

"This update introduces gameplay and stability enhancements to deliver a smooth experience for your initial journey into Limveld," Bandai Namco commented. You can confirm you have the latest version at launch by checking for 'Ver. 1.01' in the lower-right corner of the title screen.

In IGN's recent discussion with Elden Ring Nightreign director Junya Ishizaki, the lead developer explained the decision to structure the core gameplay around solo and three-player teams. When questioned about the absence of a dedicated two-player mode that bypasses matchmaking for a third participant, Ishizaki admitted this was an oversight.

"Frankly, this was something we simply missed during development as a distinct two-player feature, and we sincerely apologize for that," Ishizaki stated. "As mentioned previously, our primary objective was to craft a cooperative multiplayer experience for three players, balanced specifically for a trio, which forms the foundational design of Nightreign.

"Naturally, as a gamer myself, I understand the desire and frequently prefer playing alone, so we prioritized that experience from the outset," Ishizaki continued. "Consequently, we dedicated substantial effort to creating a viable solo adventure within the constraints of the game's rules and new mechanics. In focusing so intently on solo and trio play, we inadvertently neglected the duo option, but it's an aspect we are actively evaluating for potential post-launch support."

Therefore, if you plan to play exclusively with one other person, be prepared to welcome an additional, randomly matched player into your session. It could turn out for the best—you might be paired with a highly skilled teammate.
