Set in a parallel universe to the original Elden Ring, Nightreign allows three players to team up as Nightfarers, battling new threats and exploring a dynamic map featuring a three-day-and-night cycle that shrinks the playable area with the "Night's Tide." Each night culminates in a boss fight, with victory leading to greater challenges. Defeat yields relics for character customization and upgrades.

The official description highlights:

Elden Ring Nightreign begins at the Roundtable Hold. Players choose from eight unique characters, each with distinct abilities and Ultimates. Limveld, the ever-changing environment, demands quick decisions in combat and exploration. Successful runs bring players closer to defeating the Nightlord and uncovering the Nightfarers' stories. Each session offers a unique experience, with varying enemies, rewards, and map layouts. Sites of Grace provide opportunities to level up and enhance stats. Every session is like playing an open-air dungeon, offering opportunities for lasting stat bonuses.

IGN's hands-on preview described Nightreign as "turbocharging" Elden Ring's dungeon crawls into fast-paced speedruns. Further details can be found in IGN's interview with game director Junya Ishizaki. [Link to IGN's interview with Junya Ishizaki] [Link to IGN's hands-on preview]
