Metro 2033: Cursed Station Guide

by Ava Mar 18,2025

Even after more than a decade, Metro 2033 remains a fan favorite, its popularity recently boosted by the VR exclusive, Metro Awakening. Beginning Artyom's journey, the game primarily unfolds within Moscow's subterranean tunnels. The Cursed Station (or Turgenevskaya, as it's known in the books and real life), introduces the game's first anomalies, followed by a challenging mission where Artyom and Khan aid survivors fending off relentless nosalis attacks.

This mission often proves tricky due to unclear objectives and a confusing station layout. After witnessing an anomaly decimate a nosalis horde, Khan proceeds to the next station via railcar, initiating the "Cursed" mission upon arrival. Exiting the railcar, follow Khan through the tunnel to the defenders manning the barricaded escalators.

Locating the Bomb

The defenders explain that an explosives crew attempted to collapse the tunnel, preventing further nosalis incursions, but went missing without detonating the bomb. Artyom must locate and detonate it. Expect constant nosalis attacks throughout the mission. As Khan advises, retreat to the defenders for support if overwhelmed—you'll likely need to do this at least once while searching.

The bomb is located at the far end of the right-hand tunnel. Avoid the ghostly shadows directly ahead; they'll damage you. Once you have the bomb, either proceed to the adjacent tunnel or retreat to the defenders if outnumbered.

Destroying the Tunnel

To detonate the bomb, simply enter the left-hand tunnel (from the defenders' perspective) and wait for the cutscene. Artyom automatically plants and lights the fuse; your task is to escape the blast. Run far from the explosion to avoid being killed.

Alternatively, a grenade or pipe bomb thrown into the same tunnel area will also cause a collapse. Note that even with this tunnel destroyed, nosalises will still infiltrate through other routes, so remain vigilant.

Destroying the Airlock

After destroying the tunnel, another task remains: collapsing the airlock to further secure the station. As mentioned by Khan, this airlock is located upstairs, accessed via the stairs on the right of the main platform, in the torchlit area. Ignore any nosalises present.

To destroy the airlock, interact with the support columns. Artyom will plant a pipe bomb with a lit fuse. Escape immediately, as the explosion is substantial. With both entrances destroyed, follow Khan to the next mission stage, a small shrine room, leading to the "Armory" mission after a brief dialogue.
