Guns Undarkness Demo Arrives at Steam Next Fest

Get ready to experience Guns Undarkness! A free demo will be available during the upcoming Steam Next Fest. This exciting project is spearheaded by Shoji Meguro, the composer behind the Persona series and Metaphor: ReFantazio, alongside Ilya Kuvshinov, the character artist known for his work on Ghost in the Shell, and rapper Lotus Juice, famed for his contributions to Persona 3.

Meguro's extensive career at Atlus, spanning from 1995, includes composing music for iconic titles like the Shin Megami Tensei and Persona series. In 2021, he transitioned into indie game development while continuing his collaboration with Atlus. Since then, he's been working on this sci-fi stealth action JRPG, published under Kodansha Game Creators Lab.

Initially unveiled at Indie Live Expo Winter 2021, Guns Undarkness successfully completed its Kickstarter campaign in 2022, reaching all its stretch goals. The free demo launches during Steam Next Fest on February 24, 2025, with early access planned for later in the year.

Inspired by Metal Gear Solid and Persona

According to its Steam page, Guns Undarkness is a turn-based tactical JRPG drawing inspiration from classics like Metal Gear Solid and Persona. Set in a dystopian 2045, the world teeters on the brink of collapse. Players take on the role of a private military company operative, embarking on crucial missions alongside allies to uncover the secrets threatening humanity's survival.

Gameplay seamlessly blends stealth and turn-based combat. Strategic movement and evasion are key during stealth sections, offering significant advantages in subsequent encounters. Battles unfold in a turn-based format, demanding careful command of characters and strategic use of firearms to secure victory.

The demo offers approximately 20 minutes of gameplay, including a tutorial covering basic controls, the battle system, weaponry, and early-game strategies. Early Access release is slated for Spring 2025 on PC, promising around 10 hours of playtime. A precise release date is yet to be announced.
