How to Two-Hand Weapons in Elden Ring

To wield weapons with both hands, press and hold E on PC, Triangle on PlayStation, or Y on Xbox, then initiate an attack. This applies to either your left or right-hand weapon. Note that customized control schemes might alter these default commands. This technique also works while mounted, but remember that weapons requiring two hands due to Strength requirements must be two-handed before mounting your steed.

Why Two-Hand Weapons in Elden Ring?

Two-handing offers significant combat advantages:

  • Increased Damage: Your Strength stat receives a 50% boost, significantly amplifying damage, especially with Strength-scaling weapons.
  • Altered Movesets: Some weapons gain unique attack animations and damage types when wielded with two hands.
  • Access to Heavier Weapons: The Strength boost allows you to wield weapons otherwise inaccessible, optimizing stat allocation.
  • Ash of War Accessibility: Two-handing your right-hand weapon directly activates its Ash of War, bypassing potential conflicts with shield skills.

Downsides of Two-Handed Combat

While powerful, two-handing has drawbacks:

  • Altered Attack Patterns: Attacks change, requiring adaptation and strategic planning. Sometimes, sacrificing damage for situational effectiveness is necessary.
  • Build Dependency: Two-handing is most effective for Strength builds; other builds may find it less advantageous. Experimentation is key.

Best Weapons for Two-Handed Combat

Generally, large, Strength-scaling weapons are ideal: Greatswords, Colossal Swords, Great Hammers, and Colossal Weapons. The Two-Handed Sword Talisman (available in Shadow of the Erdtree) further enhances damage. Consider weapons like the Greatsword, Zweihander, Fire Knight's Greatsword, or the Giant-Crusher for varied combat styles.
