During an insightful interview with Gamertag Radio on January 25, 2025, Xbox CEO Phil Spencer announced his support for the Nintendo Switch 2 and revealed plans to port multiple games to this eagerly awaited platform.

Spencer's commitment to the Switch 2 came well before its launch this year, a testament to his belief in Nintendo's continued success with its innovative hybrid console. In the interview, he shared details about his communications with Nintendo's president, Shuntaro Furukawa, saying, "I was exchanging emails with Furukawa-san, the CEO of Nintendo. I gave him a big congrats and said my old eyes appreciate the larger screen."

"Nintendo, their innovation, and what they mean in this industry… I just always applaud the moves that they make. They did a little flash video, and I know we’ll get more detail over time. I’m really looking forward to supporting them with the games that we have, and I just think they’re a really important part of this industry."

Although specific titles weren't disclosed in the interview, Microsoft has an existing 10-year agreement with Nintendo, announced on February 25, 2023. This deal ensures that Microsoft will "bring Call of Duty to Nintendo Players—the same day as Xbox, with full feature and content parity," according to Microsoft president Brad Smith.

Currently, Xbox is expanding its reach by porting games like Grounded and Pentiment to rival platforms such as the Switch and PlayStation. Given the enhanced capabilities of the Switch 2, more Xbox games are likely to find their way onto Nintendo's new hybrid console.

In the same interview, Spencer reiterated Xbox's commitment to developing new hardware, even as they expand their game offerings across different platforms.

He emphasized the success of games that are accessible on multiple platforms, stating, "I want to build a platform that services those creators, the creators that are trying to meet people on every screen."

Spencer's vision is to create a platform that both developers and players will favor. "Let’s go build innovative hardware that people want to use to play, whether that’s in their hands, whether it’s on the television, or even other places."

Xbox's strategy is to make its games more accessible to a wider audience, all while continuing to innovate with new consoles and handheld devices.

On November 14, 2024, Xbox Marketing senior director Craig McNary unveiled a new slogan, "This is an Xbox," which aims to extend Xbox's presence across various devices.

This slogan reflects Xbox's evolution as a versatile platform, featuring bold, iconic, and fun visuals with a light-hearted tone. The campaign, which launched on the announcement date, will manifest in diverse and engaging ways.

The campaign's humorous approach included labeling various items like a remote control, laptop, cat box, and bento box as either being or not being an Xbox, highlighting the broad connectivity of Xbox and Microsoft to various devices. To bring this vision to life, Xbox has partnered with companies such as Samsung, Crocs™, Porsche, and others to create entertaining and unexpected engagements.
