Dawnwalker Targets Witcher 3-Level Quality in New Game
The upcoming open-world vampire RPG Blood of Dawnwalker, developed by former CD Projekt Red veterans, aims to deliver Witcher 3-level production values in a more compact experience. Here's what the development team revealed about their ambitious dark fantasy project.
Blood of Dawnwalker Strives for AAA Excellence
30-40 Hour Main Storyline
In an interview with Games Radar, creative director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz explained how his team at Rebel Wolves - despite being a new studio - is targeting production values comparable to CD Projekt Red's legendary Witcher 3.
When discussing the game's positioning between indie and AAA classifications, Tomaszkiewicz clarified their vision: "Quality-wise, we're absolutely aiming for AAA standards - that's our pedigree coming from The Witcher 3," he stated.
Though Rebel Wolves is technically a new studio, its core team brings extensive RPG development experience from their work on both The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 at CDPR. The Tomaszkiewicz brothers founded the studio to pursue creative vision without the constraints of large corporate development environments.
"Our games won't match the sheer volume of content seen in massive AAA titles - we're a smaller studio working on our debut project. But we're uncompromising on quality while working at a more focused scale," the director explained. He revealed the team is targeting a 30-40 hour main campaign: "If you judge by scope alone, no, it's not Witcher-sized. But duration doesn't define AAA status - many premium games like Call of Duty don't offer hundred-hour campaigns yet remain undisputedly AAA."
The game presents a narrative-driven open world set in the gothic fantasy realm of Vale Sangora. Players assume the role of Coen, a peasant unexpectedly bestowed with vampiric powers who must navigate political intrigue and supernatural threats while racing to save his dying sister.
While no release date has been announced, Blood of Dawnwalker is confirmed for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S platforms. Fans can expect the first gameplay showcase during summer 2025.
