All Difficulty Settings

Four difficulty levels are available: Historian (easy), Wayfarer (normal), Hero (hard), and Ultimate Warrior (very hard). Ultimate Warrior unlocks after completing a faction's main scenario. Note that completing a battle on Ultimate Warrior earns a Trophy/Achievement, but campaign completion doesn't have difficulty-specific awards.

Best Difficulty Setting

New players or those prioritizing story should select Historian. Wayfarer provides a balanced challenge for most players, even those with limited Musou experience. Series veterans might start with Hero, while experienced Musou players should consider Ultimate Warrior after unlocking it for a heightened challenge. Difficulty can be adjusted between battles via the config menu without affecting the story.

Difficulty Mode Differences

Historian simplifies combat, making enemy attacks easily blockable and increasing ease of staggering, bravery gain, and Musou Gauge filling. Hero increases enemy strength and aggression, reduces parry/evade windows, and removes Meat Bun drops. Bravery depletes on blocking, battlefield influence is limited, and Skill Points/gold rewards are reduced. Ultimate Warrior intensifies Hero's challenges with even tighter timing windows and significantly lower rewards.
