Firebreak Surpasses 1 Million Players, Devs Promise Updates

by Zoe Nov 07,2025

Remedy's Control spinoff shooter, FBC: Firebreak, has surpassed one million players. The game is free for Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus subscribers, yet the studio described this as a "significant milestone" while acknowledging "there is still plenty of work ahead."

"As of last night, FBC: Firebreak has exceeded one million players. This marks a major achievement, and the entire Remedy team thanks you for playing," the developer shared in a social media post.

"We're fully aware that more work lies ahead, and we're energized to tackle it. Exciting updates are in the works for Firebreak players—stay tuned for announcements soon."

Last week, the team highlighted issues with "the first-hour experience," noting that FBC: Firebreak's introductory segment fell short due to "a combination of factors." These included unclear onboarding, poorly explained mechanics, and "insufficient guidance on Job objectives and efficient workflow." The developer added: "The power fantasy feels underwhelming initially, as starting weapons lack impact, and unlocking better gear requires excessive grinding."

"Even with occasional narrative gaps, navigating Remedy's wonderfully absurd bureaucratic world while subduing chaotic creatures offers genuine fun," we noted in IGN's FBC: Firebreak review in progress. "Further testing of this chaotic co-op job simulator will conclude our review this week."

Remedy also outlined its post-launch roadmap, confirming two new Jobs (missions) for 2025. Additional updates are planned for 2026, with all gameplay content remaining free. While cosmetic purchases are available, these won't affect gameplay, and the studio confirmed no time-limited rotations or daily login requirements.

The Alan Wake developer remains busy with multiple projects underway, including Control 2 and the Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes alongside FBC: Firebreak.
