"Gran Saga Shuts Down Next Month"

by Zoe Mar 28,2025

NPIXEL has officially announced the closure of Gran Saga, marking the end of its brief international journey. The game's service will terminate on April 30th, 2025, and in-app purchases (IAPs) along with new downloads have already been disabled.

Originally launched in Japan in 2021 to great acclaim, Gran Saga's global version only debuted in November 2024. Unfortunately, it managed to last just six months before the decision was made to shut down.

The primary reasons for this closure appear to be financial instability and challenges in maintaining a sustainable service. Despite an impressive start in Japan, Gran Saga struggled to make a significant impact in the fiercely competitive global market.

The genre is dominated by established games with loyal player bases, making it extremely challenging for newcomers to succeed without offering something truly revolutionary. The initial success in Japan did not translate internationally, leading to an early end for Gran Saga.

ytThis closure is part of a broader trend of gacha RPGs shutting down. Recently, I reported on the closure of My Hero Academia: The Strongest Hero, which is just one of several games that have succumbed to the pressures of an oversaturated market. With numerous options available, players often prefer to stick with familiar titles, making it difficult for new or niche games to sustain long-term interest.

For those who have made recent purchases and are seeking refunds, you have until May 30th to submit a request. However, refunds may not be possible if the purchased items have already been used or due to other store policies.

For players who ventured into the world of Ethprozen, this closure is a disappointing farewell, but it reflects a common challenge in the mobile gaming industry.
