Console Performance Goals Unveiled

Monster Hunter Wilds will launch with a day-one patch optimizing performance on the PS5 Pro. A recent community update stream (December 19th) revealed target console performance: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will offer "Prioritize Graphics" (4K/30fps) and "Prioritize Framerate" (1080p/60fps) modes. Xbox Series S will run natively at 1080p/30fps. A rendering bug in the framerate mode has been squashed, resulting in improved performance.

While PS5 Pro enhancements are confirmed, specifics remain under wraps until launch.

For PC players, performance will vary based on hardware and settings. While initial PC specs were previously released, Capcom announced plans to significantly reduce minimum requirements for broader accessibility. Details on these lowered specs are forthcoming. A PC benchmark tool is also being considered.

A Second Open Beta Test?

Capcom is exploring the possibility of a second open beta test, primarily to give players who missed the first opportunity a chance to experience the game. Importantly, this potential second beta would not include the improvements and changes discussed in the recent stream; those will be exclusive to the full release.

The stream also covered refinements to hitstop and sound effects for a more impactful feel, friendly fire mitigation, and weapon balancing with particular attention to the Insect Glaive, Switch Axe, and Lance.

Monster Hunter Wilds is set for release on February 28th, 2025, for PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
