Silent Hill f Writer Ryukishi07 Calls Story Supernatural-Psycho Blend

by Nicholas Oct 25,2025

Higurashi and When They Cry creator Ryukishi07 has shared insights into crafting Silent Hill f, drawing an unexpected parallel between the game's supernatural and psychological horror elements and "salad dressing."

While anticipation builds for Silent Hill f—the franchise's revival after a decade-long hiatus—Ryukishi07 remained relatively quiet until his revealing panel at Anime Expo 2025 in Los Angeles.

Joined by producer Motoi Okamoto and composer Akira Yamaoka, Ryukishi07 explained his unconventional approach, centering the narrative around a singular thematic focus rather than his usual expansive storytelling.

As reported by Famitsu and Automaton, Ryukishi07 described how players might initially struggle to separate the game's supernatural and psychological layers, perceiving them as intertwined. Only later will the distinctions emerge—an effect he likened to "salad dressing" ingredients slowly separating.

Elaborating on the analogy, he compared these horror elements to oil and vinegar in dressing: blended at first, but gradually revealing their individual characteristics.

The comparison may surprise fans, but Ryukishi07 affirmed Silent Hill f would maintain the series' signature ambiguity—offering clues about Ebisugaoka town while leaving room for player interpretation.

Beyond horror, Silent Hill f explores universal human experiences—love, sorrow, and existential questions—continuing the series' tradition of psychological depth.

Konami confirms Silent Hill f isn't tied to previous entries, presenting a standalone story accessible to newcomers while maintaining the series' atmospheric terror.

Producer Okamoto emphasized the game's intensified combat, terrifying monster designs, and puzzles rooted in psychological torment, promising an unsettling experience.

Set in 1960s Japan, the story follows teenager Hinako Shimizu grappling with societal pressures. Notably awarded Japan's first 18+ rating for the series, Silent Hill f launches September 25 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series.
