Sony Introduces teamLFG: PlayStation’s New Studio Developing Team-Based Action Game

by Alexis Aug 08,2025

Sony has revealed teamLFG, a new PlayStation studio, and shared details about its first game.

In a PlayStation Blog post, Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Studio Business Group, noted that teamLFG was initially formed at Bungie, known for Destiny and Marathon, and is now focused on an “ambitious” incubation project that he’s “thrilled about.”

The acronym LFG in teamLFG stands for ‘Looking For Group,’ a nod to online gaming culture, suggesting a strong emphasis on social gaming. The studio’s debut title is a team-based action game inspired by fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and "frog-type games." teamLFG described it as, “Players will dive into a playful, comedic world set in a fresh, mythic, science-fantasy universe.”

“Our mission is to craft games that foster friendship, community, and a sense of belonging,” the studio stated.

“We want players to feel a rush logging in to find teammates already online. We want them to spot familiar names, create legendary moments, and share epic stories from their gameplay. We want players to cherish that one unforgettable moment when they made the play that turned the match around. As we say at the studio – that’s the real magic.

“We aim to build immersive multiplayer worlds driven by action-packed gameplay that players can learn, enjoy, and master over countless hours. We’re committed to co-creating with our community, inviting players into our development through early access playtests. Staying agile to respond to player feedback is key, not just before launch but throughout our live service as we evolve the game and community for years to come.”

teamLFG’s game is an incubation project that emerged from Bungie during major layoffs last year. After Sony’s acquisition, Bungie reportedly struggled to meet financial goals with Destiny 2’s declining performance, resulting in 100 employees laid off in November 2023. A second wave of layoffs in 2024 affected 220 staff, or 17% of Bungie’s workforce, with 155 others reassigned within Sony Interactive Entertainment. This project’s spinoff was announced during that period.

Last year, a former Bungie lawyer praised Sony’s role in driving improvements to the struggling live service looter shooter Destiny 2, calling the parent company’s influence a positive force.

Since then, Bungie has unveiled its extraction shooter Marathon and outlined a roadmap for Destiny 2’s future this week. Reports indicate Bungie has no plans for Destiny 3 and has shelved a Destiny spinoff project called Payback.
