Spectre Divide Backlash Prompts Skin Prices to Lower Soon After Launch

Mountaintop Studios, the developers behind the newly released FPS, Spectre Divide, have swiftly addressed player concerns regarding high skin and bundle prices. Just hours after launch, the studio announced significant price reductions and refunds.
Price Cuts and Refunds
Following considerable negative feedback, Spectre Divide will see a 17-25% price reduction across weapons and outfits, as confirmed by game director Lee Horn. The studio acknowledged player complaints, stating, "We've heard your feedback and we're making changes." To compensate players who purchased items at the higher prices, Mountaintop Studios is issuing a 30% SP (in-game currency) refund, rounded up to the nearest 100 SP.
This refund applies to all purchases made before the price adjustment. However, the studio clarified that prices for Starter Packs, Sponsorships, and Endorsement upgrades will remain unchanged. Players who purchased the Founder's or Supporter's packs and these additional items will receive the extra SP added to their accounts.

Mixed Reactions and Future Outlook
While some players welcomed the price adjustments, the response has been mixed, mirroring the game's current "Mixed" rating on Steam (49% Negative at the time of writing). The initial backlash included negative reviews on Steam, primarily focusing on the initially high cost of in-game items.
Social media reactions were varied. Some players praised the developer's responsiveness to feedback, while others expressed skepticism about the timing of the changes and voiced concerns about the game's long-term viability in a competitive free-to-play market. Suggestions for further improvements, such as the ability to purchase individual items from bundles, were also raised. The future success of Spectre Divide will likely depend on Mountaintop Studios' continued engagement with player feedback and their ability to address remaining concerns.
