Developed in partnership with the Oncology Department at R. H.C. Andersen Children and Youth Hospital, hospitalized children, their families, and 10:30 Visual Communication, the "HC And - When mother or father has cancer" app offers crucial support.

Designed for children aged 4-7, HC And aims to alleviate anxiety surrounding hospital visits and unfamiliar medical terms. It serves as an introductory guide to general cancer patient care, engaging children, families, and friends in a playful, accessible manner.

The app uses a child's voice narration and interactive animations, employing a "learning through play" approach ideal for tablet, mobile phone, or touchscreen devices. Recognizing that young children process information best through play and concrete examples, HC And presents short, digestible segments. This structure is particularly helpful for children who may be overwhelmed by the volume of information related to a parent's cancer diagnosis.

The app's content comprises seven short, staged stories addressing common questions about cancer, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. Hospital staff can utilize this resource as an educational tool to foster a shared understanding with young patients.
