Josef Fares Hints at Future Single-Player Game
Josef Fares, the visionary founder of Hazelight Studios and the creative force behind the cooperative adventure Split Fiction, recently took the opportunity to engage with fans and address misconceptions about his views on game development. Contrary to some fans' beliefs, Fares clarified that he has never claimed the death of single-player games. He pointed to Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (2013), one of Hazelight's most acclaimed titles, as evidence of his commitment to single-player experiences.

Fares elaborated on Hazelight's future, stating that while the studio is renowned for its cooperative gameplay, they are open to creating single-player games similar to their past projects. "We’re not excluding it," he affirmed, signaling the studio's willingness to explore various gameplay styles moving forward.
In response to criticism about the inclusion of two female protagonists in Split Fiction, Fares addressed concerns about whether this choice was driven by a feminist agenda. He reminded critics that Hazelight's previous games have featured diverse character pairings—from two brothers in Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, to two men in A Way Out, and a male-female duo in It Takes Two. Despite these precedents, the decision to feature two women as leads in Split Fiction has stirred particular controversy.
Fares emphasized that the characters in Split Fiction were inspired by his daughters and underscored his focus on storytelling and character development over physical attributes. "I don’t care what’s between someone’s legs—it’s about crafting great characters," he stated passionately.
Split Fiction, released today on March 6th, has garnered widespread critical acclaim for its innovative gameplay mechanics and diverse scenarios. Prior to its launch, system requirements were clearly shared, ensuring that players are well-informed about what they need to fully experience Hazelight's latest masterpiece.
