MultiVersus Nears Shutdown: Warner Bros. Game Loses 99% of Players

If Season 5 of MultiVersus doesn't meet expectations, it could mark the end of the game. According to AusilMV, a well-known insider for game leaks, this season represents a critical effort to revive the game. While this is currently just a rumor, the outlook appears concerning.

Upon its launch in 2022, MultiVersus saw tremendous success, peaking at 153,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, the player base plummeted by 99% shortly after, prompting Warner Bros. Games to close the project in June 2023, labeling it an "open beta test." Despite a return in May 2024 with new updates, the game has struggled to recapture its initial popularity.

The fifth season, set to begin in early February, is seen as the last opportunity for the developers to rekindle player interest. This relaunch follows the initial 2022 release, which was later referred to as a "beta" by the developers. The decision to temporarily shut down the game in June 2023, announced in March of the same year, left many players, particularly those who had purchased the premium edition to support the developers, feeling disappointed.
