The story for the third game is already complete, ensuring no delays in its release.

Kitase added that the main scenario was finalized before the PlayStation 5 release of FF7 Rebirth in February 2024, but required some polishing. "The storywriting, assigned to Tetsuya Nomura as part of the project, respects the original while aiming to provide a satisfying conclusion. We completed it at the end of last year, and I am confident it will meet the fans' expectations."

Team Admits That They Were Worried About Rebirth’s Release At First

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the second installment in the remake series, released in early 2024 to widespread acclaim. Despite its success, the developers initially harbored concerns about its reception.

Kitase confessed, "I was anxious about how it would resonate with players and fans, given it was a sequel in a trilogy. However, the overwhelmingly positive feedback we received alleviated those worries." This positive reception has not only boosted the team's morale but also set a strong foundation for the third installment. Hamaguchi noted, "The positive atmosphere around Rebirth has paved the way for the third game."

The game's praise is attributed to its compelling narrative and engaging gameplay, which Hamaguchi credits to his "logic-based approach." In another interview with Automaton, he explained their method for incorporating feedback: "If our goal is A, and someone suggests B instead, we can't accommodate it as it's merely a preference. However, if someone suggests adding B to enhance A, we'll consider it if feasible."

PC Gaming Is Now The Norm

The interview also touched on the rising popularity of PC gaming. With more gamers opting for PCs, the industry has responded by making games available on PC from launch, and even bringing console exclusives to PC platforms later.

Kitase acknowledged this trend, stating, "From a developer's perspective, rising costs necessitate reaching a broader audience. PCs and laptops are ubiquitous globally, unlike some consoles which may not be available in certain regions due to policy restrictions. Releasing on PC is inevitable to allow more players to enjoy our games."

The team's focus on delivering FF7 Rebirth to PC as soon as possible reflects this shift. Hamaguchi explained, "The gaming landscape has changed significantly. We aimed to shorten the time between the PC release of FF7 Rebirth compared to FF7 Remake."

With insights gained from the first two releases, anticipation for the final part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy is high. Fans can hope for a swift PC release to fully experience the Remake Project.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is now available on PC via Steam and PlayStation 5. If you're new to the series, start with Final Fantasy 7 Remake, available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam.
