Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Triumphant Launch

A Resounding Success Across All Platforms

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has experienced a spectacularly successful launch, boasting strong sales figures and overwhelmingly positive critical reception across all platforms. Warhorse Studios proudly announced on Twitter (X) that the game achieved the impressive milestone of over 1 million copies sold on February 4, 2025. This achievement significantly outpaces its predecessor, which required over nine days to reach the same sales mark.

According to SteamDB, KCD2 peaked at 176,285 concurrent players within six hours of release—a number that eclipses KCD1's all-time peak of 96,069 players. Furthermore, at the time of writing, KCD2 holds the 12th position among all PlayStation games in the U.S. as featured on the PS Store homepage.

The game also received a prestigious "Mighty" rating from OpenCritic, boasting a score of 89 and a remarkable 97% critic recommendation rate.

KCD2's Creative Director Addresses Negative Feedback

Despite the overwhelmingly positive response from fans and critics, KCD2 has not been without its detractors. Creative Director Daniel Vávra addressed some of the negative reviews and criticisms on Twitter (X), highlighting discrepancies between the game's overall reception and certain individual reviews.

Several gaming review outlets assigned KCD2 significantly lower scores than the average rating from other sources, often describing the gameplay as a "slog" or requiring more effort than it should. These lower scores impacted the overall OpenCritic rating, a point Vávra acknowledged and responded to with some pointed commentary on their "excellent journalistic standards."

Addressing Online Criticism

Vávra also engaged with online criticism targeting KCD2's inclusion of same-sex romance options. He responded to several Metacritic user reviews that labeled the game a "historically inaccurate DEI game," encouraging fans to review the game themselves and report any instances of bots posting negative comments on review sites.

He reiterated that the LGBTQ+ content is entirely optional, emphasizing that player choice dictates engagement with these aspects of the game. Given the open-world medieval setting, players have extensive freedom in how they experience this RPG.
