In Monster Hunter Wilds, Every Weapon Has Its Own Unique Design - IGN First

by Thomas Feb 26,2025

Concerns about weapon design similarity in Monster Hunter: World have been addressed by Monster Hunter Wilds Director Yuya Tokuda. Unlike World, where weapon appearances were largely based on monster materials, Wilds features uniquely designed weapons.

Tokuda stated, "Incidentally, weapon designs in Monster Hunter: World generally retained a certain form, but they featured a customized appearance based on which monster materials were used. However, in Wilds, each weapon has its own unique design."

This directly contrasts with Monster Hunter: World, where many weapon lines, even at their highest upgrade levels, shared similar aesthetics. The image below illustrates this similarity, showcasing the final Aqua and Pukei-Pukei Sword and Shield, and the final Bone and Jyuratodus Long Swords. These are the fully upgraded versions from the initial Monster Hunter: World release.

In comparison, the Monster Hunter Wilds weapons shown below demonstrate a clear commitment to unique designs.

This information comes from a discussion surrounding Wilds' new approach to starting weapons and the Hope series gear, which includes previously unseen concept art. Further details are available in an interview covering the Oilwell Basin, its inhabitants, and its Apex monster, Nu Udra (The Black Flame).

Monster Hunter Wilds launches February 28th on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. IGN First will feature exclusive 4K gameplay videos (Ajarakan and Rompopolo hunts), a developer interview on the franchise's evolution, and a deep dive into the game's food system throughout January.
