Valve Planning to Slow Down Deadlock Updates

Deadlock's 2025 Update Schedule: Fewer, Bigger Patches

Valve has announced a shift in its update strategy for Deadlock in 2025, moving towards larger, less frequent patches. This decision, communicated via the official Deadlock Discord, follows a year of consistent bi-weekly updates. While this may disappoint some players accustomed to the rapid pace of 2024, Valve assures that future updates will be more substantial and impactful.

The change is attributed to the challenges of maintaining a two-week update cycle, hindering internal iteration and preventing sufficient time for external feedback before subsequent releases. Developer Yoshi explained that this revised approach will allow for more thorough development and testing, resulting in updates that feel more like significant events than minor adjustments.

Deadlock's recent winter update, characterized by unique gameplay alterations rather than standard balance tweaks, serves as a potential preview of this new direction. The expectation is that future updates will incorporate similar limited-time events and special game modes, keeping the experience fresh and engaging.

Despite the reduced update frequency, Valve intends to continue releasing hotfixes as needed. The game, currently boasting 22 playable characters and an additional 8 in Hero Labs mode, has already garnered significant attention for its unique character roster, creative design, and innovative anti-cheat measures.

While an official release date remains unannounced, 2025 promises more substantial Deadlock updates and further developments. The focus on quality over quantity suggests a commitment to refining and expanding the game's already impressive foundation.
