"Marvel Rivals Ranked Mode Distrusted by Players, Stats Show"

by Matthew May 01,2025

Recent statistics on the rank distribution in Marvel Rivals on PC have sparked both interest and concern among the gaming community. The most notable aspect to focus on is the concentration of players in the Bronze ranks, particularly Bronze 3. In Marvel Rivals, reaching Bronze 3 is a milestone achieved by all players who hit level 10, after which they must engage in ranked matches to progress further.

In most competitive games, the journey from Bronze 3 to Bronze 2 is typically smooth, as game developers design rank distributions to follow a Gaussian curve, or bell curve. This model positions the majority of players in the middle ranks, such as Gold, while pulling players from the edges (like Bronze) toward the center through a system where wins grant more points than losses.

However, the data from Marvel Rivals paints a different picture. There are four times more players in Bronze 3 than in Bronze 2, and the overall rank distribution deviates significantly from the expected Gaussian curve. This anomaly suggests a lack of engagement with the ranking system among players. The reasons for this could be varied, but it's a potential red flag for NetEase, indicating that players might not find the ranking system compelling or rewarding enough to pursue higher ranks actively.
