Developers of Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era Reveal Details About the Swarm Faction

Unfrozen Studio, the developers behind Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era, have unveiled further details about the intriguing Swarm faction, following its initial teaser. They've revealed the inspiration behind its creation, the evolution from "Inferno" to "Swarm," and the unfolding events on the continent of Jadame.

The Swarm's defining characteristic is its remarkable adaptability. Certain creatures possess abilities directly influenced by the opposing unit's level; the greater the disparity, the higher the damage inflicted. Others, like mantises, strategically choose from three abilities each round. A unique feature allows creatures such as worms and locusts to devour corpses, regenerating health and boosting their power – a skill even heroes can learn.

In Olden Era, the insectoid race, previously only briefly mentioned in Might & Magic 8, takes on the role of the demonic threat. While respecting existing lore, the developers infused the Swarm with elements of body horror and occultism, transforming them into more than just a simple insect colony. They are a cult, devoted to a single, powerful ruler, each member a part of a vast collective consciousness, existing solely to execute its master's will.

Gameplay revolves around the Swarm's "mono-faction" mechanic. Using exclusively Swarm units maximizes their synergy and enhances their overall effectiveness. Furthermore, Swarm troops can summon cocoons, their health directly linked to the army's size. The resulting larvae emerge as temporary units, providing tactical adaptability on the battlefield.

The Swarm's aggressive playstyle is defined by its creatures' ability to devour corpses for healing and empowerment, and their unique abilities that shift based on enemy strength. This dynamic approach encourages direct confrontation and offers players a completely new combat strategy.
